Training Calendar 2011-2012

The Minneapolis/St Paul Chapter places a very high importance on the training required to become a successful volunteer with AMIGOS. We ask that each volunteer make a strong commitment to prepare for their upcoming summer experience.

2011 – 2012 Training Calendar

PLEASE NOTE: This calendar is not yet final and the dates and locations may change.  Please refer to the calendar you received at the first meeting and/or the chapter website for the most up-to-date information.

 

 

TRAINING SESSION

November 20, 2011, 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Lake Nokomis Church

Meeting for volunteers, parents, and Board members to meet, get to know each other, and go over expectations and information for the upcoming training year.

 

OVERNIGHT RETREAT

December 3-4, 2011, 12:00 p.m. Saturday to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, Camp Tanadoona

Overnight retreat for volunteers.  Some parents may be expected to contribute snacks or to help with transportation to and from the retreat.  The time listed includes travel time to and from the camp.  Volunteers should expect to be at the camp from 1:00 p.m. Saturday to 4:00 p.m. Sunday.  Dinner, breakfast, lunch, and light snacks will be provided. 

 

TRAINING SESSION

December 18, 2011, 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Lake Nokomis Church

Regular training session for volunteers. 

 

POTLUCK

January 8, 2012, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Lake Nokomis Church

Potluck for volunteers, parents, and Board members.  Some paperwork and 100 letters for the letter-writing campaign will be due. Additional details and food assignments will be distributed closer to the date of the potluck. 

 

NOTE: the January Board meeting will be held from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. immediately prior to the potluck.  Parents or anyone interested in joining the Board (or learning more about it) are welcome to attend. 

 

TRAINING SESSION

January 22, 2012, 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Lake Nokomis Church

Regular training session for volunteers. 

 

DAY RETREAT

February 4, 2012, 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Location TBD

Day retreat for volunteers.  Volunteers should bring their own bag lunch and any snacks they may wish to share. 

 

SPANISH DAY RETREAT

February 25, 2012, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Midtown Global Market

Spanish day retreat for volunteers.  Volunteers should expect to speak Spanish all day long.  Lunch will not be provided, so volunteers should either bring a bag lunch or bring money to purchase something at the Midtown Global Market.

March 4, 2012, 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Lake Nokomis Church

Regular training session for volunteers. 

 

TRAINING SESSION

March 18, 2012, 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Lake Nokomis Church

Health and safety meeting for volunteers, parents, and board members.  Volunteers and parents should bring any and all health and safety questions and concerns to the meeting to discuss with board members and former volunteers.  We’ll also have a special guest!

 

NOTE: the March Board meeting will be held from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. immediately after the meeting.  Parents or anyone interested in joining the Board (or learning more about it) are welcome to attend.

Packing and preparation meeting for volunteers, parents, and board members.  Volunteers and parents should bring any and all packing questions and concerns to the meeting to discuss with board members and former volunteers. 

 

NOTE: the May Board meeting will be held from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. immediately after the meeting.  Parents or anyone interested in joining the Board (or learning more about it) are welcome to attend. 

 

SERVICE LEARNING DAY

May 12, 2012, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Philadelphia Community Farms

Service Learning day for volunteers.  Volunteers should expect to carpool to the farm and be at the farm from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for a day of learning, farming, and working in and with nature.  Lunch will not be provided, so volunteers should bring a bag lunch.

May 20, 2012, 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., Lake Nokomis Church

Final training session for volunteers.
